This muscle torso illustrates with extraordinary precision both the superficial and deep muscles. As a bonus, the chest wall/abdominal wall can be removed so that the organs in the chest and abdominal cavity become visible.

The model can be separated into a total of 27 parts. In addition to the body wall, the top of the skull can be removed so that the brain becomes visible. Likewise, the brain and many of the internal organs are also removable. This makes the model ideal for illustrating the relationship of the different structures to each other.

The torso weighs 19 kg, is produced in natural size and has the dimensions 95 x 60 x 35 cm (height x width x length). It is delivered on a white stand.

The model is the product of a series of workshops held by the "German Museum and Hygiene" in Dresden, with the aim of developing models that are specifically aimed at being used in an educational context.

Anatomically speaking

Anatomically, the model shows the head, the entire torso, muscles, shoulders and the beginning of the thighs. From the head and torso, the following 26 parts can be taken (listed from top to bottom):

The top of the skull
The brain - can be further separated into 6 parts
The eyeball with the optic nerve (N. opticus)
The chest wall
The larynx - can be separated into 2 parts
The lungs
The heart - can be separated into 2 parts
diaphragm
Stomach - can be separated into 2 parts
The liver with the gallbladder
The entire intestinal system - including the cecum
The kidneys - the front can be removed so that the structure of the kidneys can be seen
The bladder - the front can be removed
4 muscles (M. sternocleidomastoideus (left and right), M. pectoralis minor, M. gluteus maximus)

When the above is removed, the following is seen on the model (mentioned from top to bottom:

The inside of the skull, the neck with the larynx, the trachea and esophagus and the thyroid gland. The right shoulder is shown with the attached musculature, while the left arm is lifted (abducted) so that the axillary space becomes visible with the contents of vessels, nerves and fatty tissue.

In the chest cavity, the remaining part of the lungs can be seen with the pulmonary hilum, where vessels and bronchi run to and from the lung. The large vessels that run to and from the heart and the contents of vessels in the intercostal spaces are also seen.

In the abdominal cavity, musculature and the largest vessels and nerves can be seen. Also visible are the kidneys and adrenal glands, the duodenum, the spleen and the pancreas, as well as the sigmoid colon and rectum.

At the top of the thigh is the trigonum femorale with contents.
