Anatomically, the model shows the transparent cornea (cornea), iris (rainbow), pupil (does not appear dark), lens and retina (retina) with blood vessels. In addition, very little of the eye surroundings is seen without detail.
Retina is shown with diseases/disorders in the form of images that can be replaced on the model. The same applies to the lens, which, however, is shaped like a lens (see the pictures on the left).
This practical construction makes it possible to see the following when the lens and/ the image of the retina is replaced:
Posterior subcapsular cataract (cataract)
Cortical cataract
Nuclear cataract
Diabetic retinopathy
Hypertensive retinopathy (retinal changes in arterial hypertension)
Papillary changes in glaucoma (glaucoma)
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD)
Papilloedema
Central artery occlusion
Central vein occlusion
Rhegmatogenous retinal detachment
