This illustrative, detailed and educational model shows a cross-section of the human spinal cord, the 3 surrounding obstacles and a spinal nerve.

Compared to the human spinal cord, the model is 5 times enlarged. It measures 26 x 19 x 13 cm and weighs approximately 700 grams. The model is delivered on a stand, where you can also see simple illustrations of the shape of the spinal cord in cross-section from the different regions of the back (from neck to sacrum).

Anatomical features

Anatomically, the model shows a cross-section of the spinal cord and a spinal nerve. The model shows many of the details in 3 dimensions. The following is seen (mentioned from the middle outwards):

The gray matter in a relatively dark color that has the shape of a "butterfly" that encircles the central canal

The white substance that lies "outside" the grey. Seen in a lighter color

Arteries and veins

The 3 spinal membranes/meninges

A spinal nerve

The stand also shows 4 simple illustrations of the shape of the spinal cord corresponding to the neck, chest, lower back and sacrum

The model's many details and naming make it possible to study specific details such as the anterior horn, lateral horn and posterior horn (cornu anterius, lateral and posterius) in the gray matter as well as the front, side and back cord (funiculus anterior, lateralis and posterior) in the white matter substance.
