This flexible model shows the lower back, sacrum and coccyx with nerves.

The model measures 34 cm in height and weighs approximately 0.7 kg. The model's vortices are held together by a copper wire. In addition, the sacrum can be opened and studied. It is supplied on a removable stand.

Anatomical features

Anatomically, the model shows the 5 lumbar vertebrae in the lower back, the sacrum and the coccyx. Therefore, the model shows the two most important joint types in the spinal column, which are the symphyses (disci/band discs) between the vertebral bodies and the facet joints, which are sliding joints between the vertebrae's pivots. Furthermore, the joint between the sacrum and tailbone (sacrococcygeal joint) can be seen. Overall, the bone quality is good, which is why, for example, larger protrusions are seen in the bone tissue.

As for nerves, the model shows the lumbar, sacral and coccygeal spinal nerves (with both anterior and posterior radix).

Product flexibility

In terms of movement, the model is flexible. The mobility of the human spine is great in the lumbar region (which is lordotic). This model can be used to demonstrate the most important movements of the lower back, which are flexion-extension, lateral flexion and rotation.

Since the sacrum can be opened, it is possible to see the canalis sacralis and the Y-shaped canals in its lateral wall and thus follow the course of the nerves (see the pictures on the left).

Clinical features

Clinically speaking, this model is ideal for understanding disorders such as disc herniation, scoliosis, root affection, back pain, spondylosis, spinal stenosis and osteoarthritis (arthrosis).

It can also be used to understand fractures etc
