Do you want to gain an understanding of the anatomy of the nasal cavity? This model illustrates both the structures found around the septum, but also around the turbinates on the opposite side. As a bonus, the olfactory organ is also depicted.

The model is produced in 4 times natural size, has the dimensions 41 x 25.5 x 18 cm (width x height x length) and weighs 3.2 kg. The model is delivered on a wooden stand, and the model itself can be rotated on the mounting pins.

The individual structures are numbered, and the names appear in a product manual that is included with the purchase of the model.

Anatomical features

Anatomically, the model shows a saggital section through the nasal cavity and skull. On the right side of the model you can see the septum with associated vessels and nerves, while the left side of the model depicts the nasal turbinates with associated structures.

At the top of the nasal cavity on the left side is the olfactory area (regio olfactoria) where nerve endings from the optic nerve begin. The model illustrates how these run through the lamina cribrosa (part of the os ethmoidal) as fila olfactoria.

In the mucosa on the left side, the mouth of the sphenoid sinus, the mouth of the ductus nasolacrimalis and the mouth of the eustachian tube (tuba auditoria) in the nasopharynx can also be seen.

In addition, sections of the nasal cartilages and sinuses (sinus sphenoidalis and sinus frontalis) are shown.

Clinical features

Clinically, the model can be used to understand diseases and disorders that affect structures in the nasal cavity and sinuses. It can be, for example, sinusitis (sinusitis), nasal polyps or surgery of the nasal turbinates (conchotomy).
